Thoughts on the Oil Spill

May 5, 2010

Every person in the United States will be affected in one way or another by the accidental oil leak off the coast of Louisiana, and it is certainly a cause for concern and appropriate action.  We all need to keep the victims in our thoughts as we approach the solution to this economic and environmental problem.  Make no mistake that it is huge, but we shouldn’t panic either.  Our country has the ability to find proper solutions to big problems every day.

Most of us are not experts in oil drilling, storage, clean-up or transport.  There are, however, those who are and they are being called upon for guidance and input into this situation.  Currently, there are 196 Vessels, 486,940 ft Boom deployed, 23,968 gallons of oily water mix recovered, 156,012 gallons of Dispersants used, 10 ROVs in use, and 7,484 personnel (with over 2,000 volunteers trained).  We must put our trust in their hands, because after all, we are all working towards the same goal of cleaning up this unfortunate accident.

We, at the Arizona Energy Forum encourage everyone to stay informed and vigilant as this situation progresses.  We need to help where we can, pray for the victims and take a measured approach in this enormous and complex situation.
