The week ahead: Keystone pipeline, Solyndra probe in focus

The House Energy and Commerce Committee is expected to vote Tuesday on GOP legislation that effectively mandates approval of the Keystone XL oil sands pipeline.

The plan would order the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to issue a permit for TransCanada Corp.’s Alberta-to-Texas pipeline, taking the issue away from the State Department.

The Obama administration denied TransCanada a permit in January but invited the company to reapply.
 
Republicans will also resume attacks this week on new EPA air pollution rules that require cuts in mercury and other toxic emissions from coal-fired power plants.

An House Energy and Commerce panel will meet Wednesday for a hearing on the “maximum achievable control technology” standards, which Republicans and power companies with coal-fired generation call too aggressive. READ MORE
